KARACHI  The Sindh government has announced a school holiday in Karachi on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, amid the prevailing severe weather conditions.

Provincial Minister for Education, Sardar Ali Shah, has said that all public and private schools across all Karachi districts will remain closed tomorrow.

The announcement came after the city received heavy rainfall on Tuesday, resulting in the major roads and neighborhoods to submerged in rainwater. Several areas throughout the city also faced power outages as 800 feeders tripped.

According to the rescue officials, four people were killed and one was injured when a house wall collapsed in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 12.

Torrential rain lashed several areas, including Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Korangi Crossing, Liaquatabad, Baldia Town, Rafah-e-Aam, and Shah Faisal Colony.

Considering the situation, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah has issued directives to implement the Rain Emergency Plan and ordered immediate measures to drain water from low-lying areas and roads.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had already predicted widespread rain and thunder showers in several districts of Sindh, including Karachi, from August 19 to 22.
